Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups Softasilk cake flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 1 small can evaporated milk
  • 2 teaspoons lemon or vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Beat the eggs until well combined.
  2. Cream together the butter and Crisco until smooth.
  3. Gradually add sugar and continue beating.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Alternately add evaporated milk and cake flour, starting and ending with the flour, one cup at a time, mixing gently.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared baking pan and bake at 325°F until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
