Ingredients

  • 1 cup thick, cold buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 2 1/2 cups good flour

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Add shortening and work until the mixture is mealy.
  3. Add soda to buttermilk and beat well.
  4. Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, then roll out and cut into biscuits.
  5. Place in a well-greased pan and bake in a very hot oven at 475°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
