  • 3 squares (3 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate-flavored candy coating
  • 3 oz. white baking pieces with cocoa butter or vanilla-flavored candy coating
  • Powdered sugar
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Rinse strawberries and pat dry.
  2. Leave caps and stems intact.
  3. With a sharp knife, make 4 or 5 slices in each berry from tip to almost the cap.

  6. Add the frozen strawberries to the Jell-O and mix well.
  7. Pour the mixture into a mold or serving dish and refrigerate until set.
  8. In the meantime, beat the sour cream until smooth and chill.

  11. Dust with powdered sugar and cocoa powder before serving.

Tips & Substitutions

For a more vibrant flavor, use fresh strawberries instead of frozen. If you're short on time, you can substitute the homemade Jell-O with pre-made strawberry gelatin. To enhance the presentation, consider using a fancy mold for the Jell-O. Make sure to chill the sour cream thoroughly to achieve a smooth texture before spreading it over the set Jell-O.

Serving Suggestions

This Special Holiday Jello is perfect for festive gatherings. Serve it as a light dessert after a hearty meal, perhaps alongside Deb'S Dip for a delightful appetizer. Pair it with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added indulgence. Garnish with mint leaves for a fresh touch.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If the Jell-O starts to lose its shape, you can gently re-mold it. Avoid freezing, as this can alter the texture of the strawberries and sour cream. Serve cold for the best taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the Jell-O and chill it a day in advance. Just keep it covered in the refrigerator. Add the sour cream and decorations right before serving to maintain freshness and presentation.

What can I use instead of sour cream?

If you prefer a lighter option, Greek yogurt can be a great substitute for sour cream. It offers a similar tangy flavor and creamy texture while being healthier. You can also try whipped cream for a sweeter topping.

How can I make this recipe more festive?

To enhance the festive feel, consider adding edible glitter or colorful sprinkles on top. You could also layer different flavors of Jell-O for a vibrant effect. Adding seasonal fruits or a sprinkle of cinnamon can elevate the holiday vibe.
