Ingredients

  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Incorporate the sifted flour, applesauce, nutmeg, and cinnamon into the mixture.
  4. Mix until well combined. Fold in chopped nuts and raisins.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  6. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting as desired.
