Spiced Grapefruit Upside-Down Cake

- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Finely grate about 1/2 of the grapefruit peel and set aside.
- Peel and cut the grapefruit into 6 cartwheel slices and drain well.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in brown sugar over low heat until smooth.
- Pour the sugar mixture into a greased 9-inch round cake pan, spreading evenly.
- Arrange the grapefruit slices over the sugar mixture in the pan.
- Sprinkle the grated grapefruit peel over the slices.
- Prepare the cake batter by mixing the pound cake mix, eggs, milk as needed, cinnamon, and ground cloves until smooth.
- Pour the batter over the grapefruit slices in the pan.
- Bake for approximately 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
- Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
- Serve the warm or cooled cake topped with whipped cream and walnut halves.
