Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup dry cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 cups cold coffee or water
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Put flour, sugar, cocoa, soda, and salt into an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2-inch metal baking dish.
  2. Stir with a fork to mix well.
  3. Form 3 wells in the mixture.
  4. Pour oil into one well, vinegar into another, and vanilla into the last.
  5. Pour cold coffee or water over all ingredients and stir with a fork until mixed well.
  6. Do not overbeat.
  7. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving; great with German chocolate frosting.
