Ingredients

  • 12 large cabbage leaves
  • 3/4 lb ground veal
  • 3/4 lb ground beef
  • 4 Tbsp grated onion
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked rice
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 3 cups canned tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine ground veal and ground beef in a skillet and sauté with grated onion in butter until lightly browned.
  2. Add cooked rice, chopped fresh dill, thyme, salt, and freshly ground black pepper to the meat mixture and mix well.
  3. Place cabbage leaves in boiling water for 1 minute to soften.
  4. Drain the cabbage leaves and pat dry.
  5. Spoon meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf.
  6. Fold the leaves over the filling in an envelope fashion and secure with toothpicks.
  7. Place the stuffed cabbage leaves in a greased shallow baking dish.
  8. Pour canned tomato sauce over the stuffed leaves.
  9. Cover and bake in a 325°F (160°C) oven for 45 minutes.
