Creamy mashed potatoes stuffed with ham, cheese, and spinach, then breaded and deep-fried to golden perfection—perfect as a hearty appetizer or comfort food favorite.

Ingredients

  • 6 potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 cup broccoli or spinach, finely chopped
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced ham
  • toasted bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Mix the first five ingredients (potatoes, egg, grated cheese, butter, nutmeg) by hand.
  2. Separately, mix together the remaining ingredients for the stuffing (broccoli or spinach, mozzarella cheese, diced ham).
  3. On a floured board, reshape the potato mixture into 6 to 7 potato shapes.
  4. Make a trench in each potato shape.
  5. Stuff the trench with the prepared stuffing mixture.
  6. Pinch to close the potato shapes.
  7. Roll each stuffed potato on the board to form a cylinder shape.
  8. Beat 2 eggs in a bowl.
  9. Prepare toasted bread crumbs in a shallow dish.
  10. Roll each potato in beaten egg, then in bread crumbs. Reform if necessary.
  11. Deep fry in a frypan until golden brown.
  12. Turn and brown well.
  13. Drain on paper towels before serving.
