Ingredients

  • 3 cups noodles
  • 1 pound pork sausage links
  • 1/4 cup sausage drippings
  • 1 cup sweetened or fresh applesauce
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup grated processed Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Cook noodles according to package instructions; drain. Place sausages in a shallow baking pan.
  3. Bake sausages for 25 minutes, turning once.
  4. Lower oven temperature to 350°F.
  5. Combine sausage drippings and cooked noodles. Arrange half of the noodles in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  6. Top the noodles with applesauce, lemon juice, and nutmeg mixture.
  7. Cover with the remaining noodles and top with cooked sausage links.
  8. Sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese over the top.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
