Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seed (optional)
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the caraway seed (if using) and raisins to the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir in the buttermilk until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 1 minute.
  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it into a greased 8-inch round pan.
  6. Pat flour lightly over the top surface of the dough.
  7. Cut a cross into the top of the dough.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 40 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
