Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 to 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Soften the yeast in warm water.
  2. Combine 1/3 cup butter, sugar, salt, and scalded milk in a saucepan.
  3. Stir to melt the butter and cool to lukewarm.
  4. Stir in the eggs and yeast mixture.
  5. Gradually add flour to form a stiff dough.
  6. Knead the dough for 5 to 8 minutes.
  7. Cover the dough and let it rise about 1 1/2 hours.
