Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb. boneless venison steak ⓘ
- 1/2 c. all-purpose flour ⓘ
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper ⓘ
- 1/4 c. bacon drippings ⓘ
- 2 large onions, sliced ⓘ
- 2 c. hot water ⓘ
- 1 (16 oz.) tomato sauce ⓘ
- 2 carrots, shredded ⓘ
- 1 green pepper, chopped ⓘ
- 1 stalk celery, chopped ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce ⓘ
Instructions
- Trim excess fat from the venison and cut into serving-sized pieces.
- Pound the venison to 1/4-inch thickness.
- In a shallow dish, combine all-purpose flour, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge the venison pieces in the flour mixture, coating well.
- In a large skillet, heat bacon drippings over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the floured venison pieces and brown on all sides.
- Pour in hot water and tomato sauce, stirring to combine.
- Add shredded carrots, chopped green pepper, and chopped celery.
- Stir in sugar and Worcestershire sauce.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 45-60 minutes until the venison is tender.
- Serve hot with your choice of side dishes.
