Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup syrup
  • 1 cup bacon grease or shortening
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Beat the eggs; add syrup and shortening to the mixture.
  2. Mix soda into the buttermilk. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Add the sifted dry ingredients and buttermilk to the syrup mixture, stirring until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into an iron skillet and bake at 350°F until well done.
