- Combine yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar; set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix corn meal, hot water, milk, sugar, salt, melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture.
- Mix well until ingredients are combined.
- Add sifted flour and baking soda; knead the dough for 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and let rise for 2 hours.
- Punch down the dough and let it rise a second time for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Shape the dough and place in pie pans or baking pans.
- Bake in the oven for 25 minutes until golden brown.
