Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lbs beef stew meat
  • 1-2 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 can (16 oz) tomatoes with liquid
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large kettle or Dutch oven, brown beef, adding oil if desired, then drain.
  2. Add onion, garlic powder, pepper, and water; bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes or until meat is almost tender.
  4. Add tomatoes, cumin, and salt; return to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until meat is tender and tomatoes and onions are thick.
