Texas Toffee

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. saltines
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
  • chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a pan with foil and place saltine crackers flat on the bottom.
  2. In a saucepan, boil butter and brown sugar together for 3 minutes.
  3. Spread the hot butter-sugar mixture evenly over the crackers.
  4. Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  6. Return to the oven for a few minutes until the chocolate melts.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface.
  8. Sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
  9. Allow to cool completely, then break into pieces.
