Thai Beef With Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef round steak
  • 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. fish sauce (nam pla)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Partially freeze the round steak.
  2. With a sharp knife, slice the meat very thin and into bite-size pieces.
  3. In a blender, combine water, garlic, 2 tablespoons cooking oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, crushed red pepper, fish sauce, and cornstarch.
  4. Cover and blend until smooth.
  5. Set aside the sauce mixture.
  6. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add 2 tablespoons cooking oil.
  7. Stir-fry the broccoli for 3 to 4 minutes or until crisp-tender. Remove from wok.
  8. Add more oil if necessary; add half of the beef strips to the wok.
  9. Stir-fry for 3 minutes; remove and cook the remaining beef.
  10. Return all the beef and broccoli to the wok.
  11. Stir in the cornstarch mixture.
  12. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
  13. Cover and cook for 1 minute more.
  14. Serve over rice or Chinese noodles.
