Ingredients

  • 1/2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 c. drained, canned tomatoes
  • 8 oz. Mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c. olive oil
  • 1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Soften yeast in 2 tablespoons warm water and set aside.
  2. Pour remaining 1 cup warm water into a large bowl.
  3. Blend in 2 cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon salt.
  4. Stir in the softened yeast mixture and mix well.
  5. Add about 1 cup flour to the mixture and beat until very smooth.
  6. Mix in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  7. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then let it rise.
  8. Preheat oven to the desired temperature for baking the pizza.
  9. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to the desired thickness.
  10. Spread the drained, canned tomatoes over the dough.
  11. Arrange thin slices of mozzarella cheese over the tomato topping.
  12. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
  13. Season with salt and pepper.
  14. Bake until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly, about 15 minutes.
