A hearty casserole combining savory ground beef, frankfurters, vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes, topped with cheese for a satisfying family-friendly meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. frankfurters, sliced
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 can pork and beans
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 3 cups mashed potato flakes
  • 1 Tbsp. butter

Instructions

  1. Brown beef in a large skillet.
  2. Stir to crumble and pour off fat.
  3. Stir in sliced frankfurters, chopped celery, pork and beans, and tomato sauce.
  4. Bring to a boil, then spoon into a 12 x 8-inch baking dish.
  5. Prepare mashed potatoes using 2 2/3 cups potato flakes for 8 servings according to package instructions.
  6. Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture in the dish.
  7. Melt butter and stir in the remaining 1/2 cup of potato flakes.
  8. Sprinkle the flakes over the mashed potatoes in the dish.
  9. Top with shredded cheese.
  10. Bake at 400°F for 30 minutes or until browned.
