Ingredients

  • bread
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 slice bacon
  • corn bread or hoe cakes
  • 1 tsp. minced parsley
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

Instructions

  1. Soak bread almost two days old in milk until soft.
  2. Press out all the moisture and add an equal amount of quickly cooked corn bread or hoe cakes.
  3. Place the mixture in a saucepan with chopped onion, butter, and bacon.
  4. Cook for 10 minutes without browning.
  5. When cold, season with salt, pepper, celery seed, and minced parsley.
  6. Add sage, thyme, and the yolk of 1 egg, then mix well.
