Ingredients

  • 1 lb bacon
  • 1 can Ortega refried beans
  • 4 oz shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 4 oz shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 8 oz Pace picante sauce
  • 1 bunch green onions
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon until crispy, then drain and reserve 1/8 cup of the drippings.
  2. Add the reserved bacon drippings to a large pan.
  3. Add garlic powder and one-third of the chopped green onions to the pan, and sauté for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the can of refried beans and picante sauce to the pan and stir until thoroughly mixed.
  5. Bring the mixture to a slow bubble, then add a small handful each of shredded Cheddar and Mozzarella cheese, along with about one-third of the crumbled bacon.
  6. Cook and stir until the cheese is melted and mixture is heated through.
  7. Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe casserole dish.
  8. Layer the top of the dip with three-quarters of the remaining cheese, chopped green onions, crumbled bacon, and the remaining cheese.
  9. Bake at 350°F until the cheese melts and sides are bubbling.
  10. Serve hot with tortilla chips.
