Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 2 medium carrots sliced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 teaspoons margarine
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 3 medium chopped potatoes
  • 2 teaspoons dried dill weed
  • 1 (15 oz) can Great Northern or navy beans
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, sauté chopped onion, sliced carrots, chopped celery, and minced garlic in margarine until tender.
  2. Add chicken broth, chopped potatoes, and dried dill weed to the pan.
  3. Simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
  4. Use the back of a spoon to mash about half of the potatoes in the pan.
  5. Drain and add the beans to the mashed potatoes in the pan.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix sour cream or plain yogurt with flour, pepper, and salt.
  7. Stir the sour cream mixture into the potato and bean mixture.
  8. Cook and stir until the chowder thickens and becomes bubbly, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  9. Serve hot with salad and hard bread.
