Victorian Eggnog

A rich, creamy Victorian-style eggnog with nutmeg and sherry, perfect for festive gatherings and winter celebrations, offering a smooth, spiced flavor profile that delights everyone.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. whipping cream
  • 1 c. half and half
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 6 Tbsp. dry sherry

Instructions

  1. Bring the whipping cream and half and half to a simmer in a large saucepan.
  2. Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a large bowl to blend.
  3. Gradually whisk the hot cream mixture into the yolk mixture.
  4. Return the mixture to the same saucepan.
  5. Stir over medium-low heat until the mixture thickens and leaves a path on the back of a spoon when finger is drawn across, about 4 minutes. Do not boil.
  6. Strain the mixture into a bowl.
  7. Stir in ground nutmeg and cool slightly.
  8. Divide the warm or cold mixture among 6 cups or glasses.
  9. Stir 1 tablespoon of sherry into each serving.
  10. Sprinkle additional nutmeg over each and serve.
