Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup pecan pieces

Instructions

  1. Cream together shortening, sugar, and eggs.
  2. Beat in sifted flour, baking powder, soda, and salt.
  3. Stir in buttermilk, mashed bananas, and pecan pieces.
  4. Pour batter into layer pans or a 13 x 9-inch oblong pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes in layers or 35 minutes in a single pan.
  6. Use a dark chocolate frosting to cover the cake.
