Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Sift flour and sugar into a bowl.
  2. Combine margarine, cocoa, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  3. Pour the boiling mixture over the sifted flour and sugar, and mix well.
  4. Add the beaten eggs, soda, vanilla, and buttermilk to the mixture.
  5. Mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased sheet cake pan.
  7. Bake at 400°F (204°C) for 20 minutes.
  8. Prepare icing about 5 minutes before the cake is done.
