- Sift flour and sugar into a bowl.
- Combine margarine, cocoa, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

- Add the beaten eggs, soda, vanilla, and buttermilk to the mixture.
- Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into a greased sheet cake pan.
- Bake at 400°F (204°C) for 20 minutes.
- Prepare icing about 5 minutes before the cake is done.
