Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add flour and mix until crumbly.
  3. Set aside 1 1/2 cups of the crumbs for topping.
  4. Stir the spices into the flour and sugar mixture.
  5. Add buttermilk, soda, and eggs to the mixture.
  6. Beat thoroughly until smooth.
  7. Spray a 9 x 14-inch pan with cooking spray.
  8. Sprinkle half of the reserved crumbs on the bottom of the pan.
  9. Pour the batter into the pan over the crumbs.
  10. Sprinkle remaining crumbs on top of the batter.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes.
  12. Serve warm or cold.
