Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 to 2 cups raisins
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon soda

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix brown sugar, 1 1/2 cups water, shortening, raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  2. Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 3 minutes.
  3. Set aside to cool.
  4. Preheat oven to 325°F.
