Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk, scalded
  • 1/4 cup shortening or oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Soften yeast in warm water (110°F) and let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In the meantime, mix milk, shortening or oil, sugar, and salt in a bowl and cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add 1 cup of sifted all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture and beat well.
  4. Gradually add the yeast and egg mixture to the flour mixture and beat until smooth.
  5. Stir in the remaining flour until the dough is stiff enough to handle.
  6. Place the dough in a greased large bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
