Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • soft butter or margarine
  • 1 Tbsp. wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
  • 4 or 5 crisp lettuce leaves
  • 1/2 lb. sliced salami
  • 2 tomatoes
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 4 oz. sliced Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 lb. sliced boiled ham

Instructions

  1. Cut the French bread horizontally in half.
  2. Spread the bottom half with butter or margarine.
  3. Stir together wine vinegar, olive oil, and garlic salt; dip the lettuce leaves into the mixture.
  4. Layer lettuce, sliced salami, and sliced tomatoes on the buttered bread.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Layer the remaining ingredients: sliced ham, Swiss cheese, cucumber slices, and additional tomatoes if desired.
  7. Place the top half of the bread on the filling and secure the loaf with picks.
