  • 1 tsp. lemon juice

  2. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 5 minutes.

Tips & Substitutions

For a creamier sauce, consider using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Fresh dill can be substituted for dried dill weed for a more vibrant flavor. If you're short on time, pre-cut zucchini and onion can save you prep time. Adjust the sugar to taste based on the sweetness of the zucchini. This dish can also be made into a heartier meal by adding cooked chicken or shrimp.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the zucchini in dill sauce as a side dish alongside grilled meats or fish for a refreshing complement. It pairs beautifully with chicken recipes, such as Chicken In A Skillet With Tomatoes. For a complete meal, consider serving it over rice or alongside crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce. A sprinkle of fresh dill on top just before serving adds a nice touch.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, gently warm the zucchini in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Avoid microwaving as it may make the zucchini too soft. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, but can still be tasty when reheated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen zucchini for this recipe?

While fresh zucchini is recommended for the best texture and flavor, frozen zucchini can be used in a pinch. Just ensure to thaw and drain it well before adding it to avoid excess moisture in the dish.

How can I make this recipe vegan?

To make this dish vegan, substitute the butter with a plant-based alternative and replace the sour cream with a vegan sour cream or cashew cream. Ensure that the chicken bouillon granules are also plant-based or use vegetable broth instead.

What can I do if my sauce is too thin?

If your sauce is too thin, you can mix a little more flour with a splash of water to create a slurry. Slowly add this mixture to the sauce while stirring over low heat until it thickens to your desired consistency.
