- Cream the butter until smooth, then gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
- Add well beaten eggs to the creamed mixture and mix well.
- Sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and a pinch of salt.
- Add baking soda to the buttermilk and stir to combine.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture, mixing well after each addition.
- Fold in the raisins and chopped nuts.
- Add the jam and gently mix to incorporate.
- Grease three cake pans and divide the batter evenly among them.
- Bake at 325°F (160°C) for approximately 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
