Chewy, chocolate chip cookies with crunchy walnuts, perfect for sharing. Rich flavors of vanilla, chocolate, and toasted nuts make these a classic favorite for all ages.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. shortening or oleo
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp. water
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 12 oz. chocolate chips
  • 6 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Cream together the shortening, sugar, and brown sugar.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Stir in vanilla and water as needed to reach desired consistency.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients: flour, soda, and chopped walnuts if using.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing well.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a buttered flat glass or baking sheet.
  8. Once a mound of dough is placed, dip the bottom of a flat glass in sugar and press down to flatten the cookie.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 12 minutes or until golden brown.
