- Cream together the shortening, sugar, and brown sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla and water as needed to reach desired consistency.
- Combine the dry ingredients: flour, soda, and chopped walnuts if using.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing well.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a buttered flat glass or baking sheet.
- Once a mound of dough is placed, dip the bottom of a flat glass in sugar and press down to flatten the cookie.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 12 minutes or until golden brown.
