Ingredients

  • 4 3/4 to 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 packets (4 1/2 teaspoons) RapidRise yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix 3 cups of flour, sugar, undissolved yeast, and salt.
  2. Heat milk, water, and margarine until warm (120° to 130°).
  3. Mix the warm liquids into the dry ingredients.
  4. Add the egg and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 8 minutes.
  6. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. Divide the dough in half. Roll each half to fit two greased 8 or 9-inch square pans.
  8. Place the rolled dough into the pans.
  9. With a sharp knife, cut each pan of dough into 16 rolls; cover the pans.
  10. Let the rolls rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 20 minutes. Dust the tops with 1 tablespoon of flour.
  11. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
