- Beat together cream cheese, egg, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon salt until smooth.
- Add 6 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate morsels to the mixture and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 cup baking cocoa, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Add 1/3 cup vegetable oil and 1 cup water to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Pour about one-third of the chocolate batter into cupcake liners in a muffin tin.
- Top each with a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture.
- Cover with remaining chocolate batter.
- Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow cupcakes to cool before serving.
