Ingredients

  • 2 c. chopped Granny Smith apples
  • 1 1/2 c. sliced almonds
  • 3/4 c. chopped onions
  • 1/4 c. chopped celery
  • 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 6 c. cubed whole wheat bread
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 c. apple cider

Instructions

  1. Saute chopped apples, sliced almonds, chopped onions, and celery in butter for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  2. Remove the mixture from heat.
  3. Stir in ground cinnamon, poultry seasoning, and salt.
  4. Toss together cubed whole wheat bread and raisins.
  5. Add the apple mixture to the bread and raisin mixture.
  6. Stir together the beaten egg and 1/3 cup of apple cider, then add to the bread mixture.
  7. If a moister stuffing is desired, add remaining apple cider and mix well.
