Ingredients

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 7/8 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted shortening
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Mix applesauce, brown sugar, and melted shortening in a bowl.
  2. Sift in flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves into the mixture.
  3. Add raisins and nuts to the batter and stir well.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 7 x 11-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes until golden and cooked through.
