Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soft shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Cream together the soft shortening and sugar.
  2. Add eggs and applesauce; mix well.
  3. Sift together the flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with water, and mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in the nuts and raisins.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
