Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cut in margarine or butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Make a well in the center, then add milk, chopped onion, and crumbled bacon.
  4. Stir just until the dough clings together.
  5. Knead dough gently on a lightly floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes.
  6. Roll or pat the dough to 3/4-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out biscuits using a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter, dipping the cutter in flour between cuts.
  8. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet.
  9. Bake in a 450°F oven for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
