Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • shortening
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • oil (for greasing)
  • beaten egg (for glazing)
  • 2 bacon slices, chopped
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 small potato, grated
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • pinch of thyme
  • 1 tablespoon steak sauce
  • dash of pepper

Instructions

  1. Make dough by combining flour and salt, then cut in shortening and butter until crumbly.
  2. Add water to form a firm dough, then roll out a portion to a 5-inch circle.
  3. Place a portion of the chopped bacon and grated vegetables in the center of each dough circle.
  4. Brush the edges with water to seal, then crimp to enclose the filling.
  5. Brush the turnovers with beaten egg for glazing.
  6. Bake in a 400°F oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
