Bacon Turnovers

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour ⓘ
- 1/4 teaspoon salt ⓘ
- shortening ⓘ
- 3 tablespoons butter ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons water ⓘ
- oil (for greasing) ⓘ
- beaten egg (for glazing) ⓘ
- 2 bacon slices, chopped ⓘ
- 1 small onion, grated ⓘ
- 1 small potato, grated ⓘ
- 1 small carrot, grated ⓘ
- pinch of thyme ⓘ
- 1 tablespoon steak sauce ⓘ
- dash of pepper ⓘ
Instructions
- Make dough by combining flour and salt, then cut in shortening and butter until crumbly.
- Add water to form a firm dough, then roll out a portion to a 5-inch circle.
- Place a portion of the chopped bacon and grated vegetables in the center of each dough circle.
- Brush the edges with water to seal, then crimp to enclose the filling.
- Brush the turnovers with beaten egg for glazing.
- Bake in a 400°F oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
