- Soak the beans overnight in water.
- Drain the beans and place them in a bean pot.
- Add dark molasses, powdered mustard, a small onion with a clove stuck in it, half a bay leaf, catsup, Worcestershire sauce, and salt to the bean pot.
- Add water until the pot is three-quarters full.
- Set the bean pot in a deep pan filled with water and bake at 350°F (175°C).
- During baking, keep adding water as needed to prevent the beans from boiling dry.
- Bake for 5 hours, until the beans are tender and flavors meld.
