Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage, cut bite size
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup oleo
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • dash of salt
  • dash of cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 pound Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Boil the cabbage for 10 minutes, uncovered, until tender-crisp. Drain and place in a casserole dish.
  2. In a saucepan, blend oleo and flour over medium heat. Add chopped onion, celery, bell pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Saute for 10 minutes.
  3. Add milk and shredded Cheddar cheese to the saucepan. Stir until the cheese is melted and the mixture is well blended.
  4. Pour the cheese sauce over the cabbage in the casserole dish.
  5. Top with seasoned bread crumbs.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
