Tips & Substitutions

For a healthier twist, consider substituting turkey sausage for the pork sausage. You can also use fresh mushrooms instead of canned for a more robust flavor. If you want to enhance the flavor further, add your favorite herbs or spices. For a gluten-free option, replace the French bread with gluten-free bread or a grain like quinoa.

Serving Suggestions

This dish is perfect for brunch and pairs beautifully with a fresh green salad or roasted vegetables. For a heartier meal, serve it alongside crispy hash browns or fruit. Consider offering additional toppings like hot sauce or salsa for extra flavor. It's a great way to start the day!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it overnight before baking. This allows the flavors to meld together. Just make sure to cover it well with plastic wrap to prevent drying out.

Can I freeze this baked sausage and eggs dish?

Absolutely! To freeze, let the baked dish cool completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. It can be frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until heated through, about 30-40 minutes.

What can I use instead of cheese?

If you're looking for a dairy-free option, try using vegan cheese or simply omit the cheese altogether. The casserole will still be flavorful due to the sausage and seasonings. You can also sprinkle nutritional yeast on top for a cheesy flavor without the dairy.
