Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Great Northern beans
  • 10 oz. ham, diced
  • 9 oz. beef, ground or diced and precooked
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 can (No. 303) tomatoes with liquid
  • 1 cup tomato juice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Soak the beans in water for 8 hours or overnight.
  2. Chop the green pepper, celery, and onion into coarse pieces.
  3. Drain the soaked beans and add them to the crock-pot.
  4. Add the chopped vegetables and broken-up tomatoes with all their liquid, tomato juice, and water to the beans.
  5. Add the precooked beef, diced ham, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  6. Simmer until the beans are tender and flavors are well combined.
