Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup bacon drippings
  • 6 small onions or 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pound lean round steak, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon crumbled marjoram or rosemary
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon crumbled thyme
  • 1 (10 1/2 oz) can condensed beef broth
  • 1/2 cup wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup bourbon

Instructions

  1. Heat bacon drippings in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and sliced mushrooms; cook until lightly browned.
  3. Remove onions and mushrooms from the skillet; set aside.
  4. Add steak cubes to the skillet and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.
  5. Sprinkle flour, salt, marjoram or rosemary, pepper, and thyme over the meat; stir to blend well.
