Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef cubes or 2 large round chicken breasts, cut up
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can golden mushroom soup
  • 1 large can mushrooms
  • 3 large potatoes, chopped
  • 3 large carrots, sliced
  • 1 stick celery, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 box frozen peas
  • salt and pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup red or white cooking wine

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except wine and frozen peas in a large dish, season with salt and pepper, and stir well.
  2. Place in an oven preheated to 250°F. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup water after the first hour of baking.
  3. After three hours of cooking, add either white or red cooking wine to the dish.
  4. Continue baking at 250°F for a total of five hours, stirring every hour.
  5. During the last hour, place the box of frozen peas on top of the stew and keep covered.
