Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons instant minced onions
  • 1/4 cup diced green chilies
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 can refrigerated buttermilk or country style biscuits
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef, chopped onion, and green chilies in a skillet; drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, chili powder, and garlic powder; simmer while preparing the dough.
  3. Separate refrigerated biscuits into 10 layers, pulling each into 2 layers.
  4. Place 10 biscuit layers in an ungreased 8 or 9-inch square baking pan.
  5. Combine 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, and a slightly beaten egg in a bowl; mix well.
  6. Remove the meat mixture from heat and stir in the sour cream mixture.
  7. Spoon the meat and sour cream mixture over the biscuit layers in the pan.
  8. Arrange the remaining biscuit layers over the top of the casserole.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.
  10. Bake at 357°F (around 180°C) for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
