Ingredients

  • 2 thin hamburgers (1/4 lb.)
  • 1 1/2 sesame seed hamburger buns
  • 2 Tbsp shredded lettuce
  • 3 slices dill pickles
  • 2 Tbsp diced onions
  • 2 Tbsp special sauce
  • 1 slice American cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook 2 thin hamburgers as desired.
  2. Fry diced onions in oil until browned.
  3. Assemble the Big Mac: bottom bun, 1 tablespoon sauce, half the lettuce, cheese, one meat patty, half the onions, half the bun.
  4. Add remaining sauce, lettuce, pickle slices, second meat patty, remaining onions, and top of sesame seed bun.
  5. Place in a 375°F oven for 5 minutes before serving.

Tips & Substitutions

For an authentic flavor, consider using a blend of ground beef with higher fat content to keep the patties juicy. If you don't have sesame seed buns, any soft hamburger bun can work. You can also customize the special sauce with a touch of mustard or relish for added zing. For a vegetarian option, try a plant-based burger patty in place of the meat.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Big Mac with crispy French fries or onion rings on the side for a classic fast-food experience. A side of coleslaw or a fresh garden salad can add a refreshing touch. This burger pairs beautifully with a cold soda or homemade lemonade for a perfect meal.

Storage & Reheating

To store leftovers, wrap the assembled Big Mac tightly in plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for up to 2 days. To reheat, unwrap and place in a toaster oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes until warmed through, or microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute, but be cautious as the bun may become soggy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the Big Mac sauce ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the special sauce in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. This allows the flavors to meld together nicely. Just give it a good stir before using it in your Big Mac.

What can I use instead of American cheese?

If you prefer a different type of cheese, cheddar or Swiss cheese can work well as substitutes. For a tangy flavor, consider using a slice of pepper jack. Just be sure to melt it properly for that gooey texture.

How can I make the patties more flavorful?

To enhance the flavor of your hamburgers, try seasoning them with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper before cooking. You can also mix in Worcestershire sauce or even chopped fresh herbs for a unique twist.
