Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 cups sour milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 cup jam
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. First, beat the eggs in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Cream the butter and brown sugar together.
  3. Add the jam, raisins, and vanilla to the creamed mixture.
  4. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves.
  5. Dissolve the baking soda in the sour milk.
  6. Gradually add the sour milk mixture to the wet ingredients.
  7. Sift the dry ingredients into the mixture and combine well.
  8. Add the cocoa to the batter and mix thoroughly.
  9. Pour the batter into a prepared baking pan.
  10. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
