Ingredients

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 4 beaten egg whites
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • chopped walnuts or salted peanuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare a baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat 4 egg yolks and 1 cup sugar until well combined.
  3. Add 1 cup flour, a dash of salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1 teaspoon vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually stir in 1/2 cup boiling water until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat 4 egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake until set and golden brown, approximately 30 minutes.
  9. Once cooled, spread with a frosting made from 1 egg yolk and 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar mixed with 1/2 cup melted butter.
  10. Add enough milk to spread the frosting evenly on top.
  11. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts or salted peanuts before serving.
