- Preheat the oven and prepare a baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, beat 4 egg yolks and 1 cup sugar until well combined.
- Add 1 cup flour, a dash of salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1 teaspoon vanilla; mix well.
- Gradually stir in 1/2 cup boiling water until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, beat 4 egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake until set and golden brown, approximately 30 minutes.
- Once cooled, spread with a frosting made from 1 egg yolk and 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar mixed with 1/2 cup melted butter.
- Add enough milk to spread the frosting evenly on top.
- Sprinkle with chopped walnuts or salted peanuts before serving.
