Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Boil water, butter, shortening, and cocoa together.
  2. Pour the hot mixture over the flour, sugar, and soda in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 11 x 15-inch pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
